Welcome! We’re glad you’re checking out our venue. We’re the owners of Blackberry Hill Wedding Barn. We strive to create an environment that feels like home and is unique to you and your future spouse. To help you become familiar with us, below is a little history on our family-run business.
Here’s our story.
When we bought this property in 2009, we had no idea of the journey that would lead us to creating Blackberry Hill. Some of our initial ideas for the property included cleaning it up and moving there ourselves or possibly selling it. We even contemplated tearing down the existing structures and building a new house entirely. As the months passed however, family obligations, kid’s sports games, and life in general kept us busy. All of these things meant the property sat largely untouched for almost 7 years.
In early 2016, our newly engaged daughter, Maggie, approached us with a surprising request; she wanted to get married in the barn on our property. After getting over our initial shock, we got to work making it the perfect venue for her special day. The barn was full of old miscellaneous items and desperately needed a deep cleaning, but luckily, we had lots of help. The whole family got involved: Mark, Kim, Maggie, Hannah, Cameron and Maggie’s then fiancé, Carson Fleetwood. We were truly blessed to have the help not only of our immediate family, but also overwhelming help and support from aunts and uncles, cousins and friends of our family, along with Carson’s parents and siblings. After nine months of hard work, the barn was finally wedding-ready.
On October 15, 2016, we had the pleasure of watching our daughter marry her high school sweetheart in our modest barn. During the event we were approached by many guests suggesting that we should turn the barn into a wedding venue, and thus Blackberry Hill Wedding Barn was born. We discovered very quickly that the process was going to be more complicated than we originally anticipated. Our main challenge was the location of the barn itself. Since the property is located between two counties, Bartholomew and Jennings, we had additional paperwork and permits to deal with. This pushed back our original goal of opening in fall of 2017 but we persevered nonetheless. After all of the challenges and hard work, we are happy to be hosting weddings every weekend at Blackberry Hill and hope that you’ll consider our unique and cozy venue for your wedding.
